How Microsoft Can Make The Surface Pro 4 A Smash Hit

By  |
Despite positive reviews, Microsoft’s Surface Pro devices lost the company nearly $2 billion over two years. However, Microsoft saw its fortunes turn around with the introduction of the Surface Pro 3. The laptop-tablet hybrids come with the features and power of a laptop in the portable form factor of a tablet. A surprising $900 million in revenue was recorded late in 2014, thanks to the Surface Pro 3. At some point in 2015, Microsoft is expected to release the Surface Pro 4. What can the company do to ensure the device’s success?
Adding More Powerful Processors Into The Mix
Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors were available on the Surface Pro 3. Of course, these processors offered far more power than other tablets, and even hybrid devices. Users still complained of throttling because the processors weren’t powerful enough. Even with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, some users reported that their devices bogged down with heavy usage. Microsoft can avoid these issues by packing higher clocked processors into the Surface Pro 4. Higher clock speed results in even more processing power after all.
A Lower Price (At Least A Lower-Priced Version)
Most users can agree that the Surface Pro 3 cost too much money for the average user. The base model cost a hefty $799 and rose to nearly $2,000 for the best version. By adding a cheaper version, Microsoft stands to increase sales by thousands of units. Perhaps throwing an Intel Core M chip into the Surface Pro 4 and dropping the price $100-$200 would come with higher sales figures. Dropping the price on each model by the slightest amount would make sense, too. Therefore, a price drop could benefit consumers and Microsoft alike.
Improving The Detachable Keyboard and Trackpad
For the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft improved its detachable keyboard and trackpad. Owners still complained about connectivity issues and problems using the trackpad. The company could improve the next version of the detachable keyboard for the Surface Pro 4. By fixing issues from the previous version, Microsoft can avoid any problems and criticisms of its flagship hybrid. Every little improvement from the Surface Pro 3 to the Surface Pro 4 can only benefit the company and lead to higher sales.
Other Possible Changes and Improvements
These days, consumers continue to look for devices that attain all-day battery life without sacrificing power. Microsoft would benefit from installing a larger battery in the Surface Pro 4. Adding an inch or two onto the 12-inch screen of the Surface Pro 3 would make sense for the Surface Pro 4. As phablets become more popular among consumers, tablets and hybrids need to upsize in order to stay relevant. Adding an HDMI port instead of a DisplayPort to the next Surface Pro would make a lot of sense, too.
Billions On The Line For Microsoft and The Surface Pro 4
In the Surface Pro 4, Microsoft needs a smash hit in order to justify the very existence of these hybrids. Major improvements from the previous Surface Pro are needed for the upcoming version. Releasing the Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 alongside the release of that new operating system would be an incredibly smart move. For the best results, Microsoft needs to create a true hybrid device that’s every bit a laptop with power and performance as it is a tablet with convenience and portability. Otherwise, the company could lose billions more on these devices.

Surface Pro 4 – The Rumors and Speculations about the Highly Anticipated Microsoft Tablet

By  |
Dust has barely touched the surface of the third edition of Microsoft Surface Pro tablets and the American Multinational company is all set to release its successor.
As the Surface Pro 3 has gained immense attention and appreciation from the world of gadget lovers, people have high expectations from the next version of the Microsoft tablet. The Surface Pro 4 has already created a huge buzz in the market, though the company has not even confirmed its release date yet. However, like all the gadgets under the spotlight, there are rumors about the upcoming version of the Surface Pro tablet.
Operating System
Microsoft has been providing its signature, the Windows OS, in the Surface Pro tablets. The latest released version of the Surface Pro tablet features the Windows 8 OS; so it is being rumored that its successor will offer the newer operating system. In simpler words, the Surface Pro 4 will supposedly come loaded with the Windows 10 OS; the tenth version of the Windows Phone OS.
As the tenth installment of Microsoft’s OS has not been confirmed yet, it is rumored that the release date of the tablet will be scheduled in October if it would feature the Windows 10 platform. However, this date can be brought forward if Microsoft launches its latest operating system sometime soon.
Screen Size
There are rumors that the fourth edition of the Surface Pro tablet will be available in two sizes. Although all the performance features and basic structure of the two versions would remain similar, the two Surface Pro tablet would come with 12-inch and 14-inch screens. However, if the rumor doesn’t turn out to be true, it is expected that the display screen of the upcoming Microsoft tablet will be not less than 12 inches. Therefore, we can anticipate a device with remarkable screen size for viewing texts, watching videos and playing games.
Cost
The latest version of the released Microsoft tablet, the Surface Pro 3, costs $799. Bearing this in mind, the price of the upcoming Surface Pro tablet will be $1000 approximately. However, if the fourth edition hits the market in two screen-size versions, the device with the smaller screen is expected to come with a price tag of $699. Moreover, we can expect a competitive price which can provide a healthy competition to the upcoming editions of iPad and other Premium level tablets.
Release Date
As discussed earlier, the upcoming version of the Microsoft Surface series tablet will hit the market in or before October. As Microsoft is looking forward to the Game Developers Conference to be held in the first week of March, it is being believed that the release date would be announced in the meet. Moreover, if the Surface Pro 4 doesn’t get the Microsoft Windows 10 platform as the preloaded OS, the launch can be scheduled in the mid-months of the year; preferably July. Moreover, we can expect that the feature-packed Surface Pro tablet will hit the international market and can be enjoyed by the buyers before the end of 2015.
